UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, I WILL ONLY BE CONDUCTING INDIVIDUAL ONE-ON-ONE INSTRUCTION.
Welcome to my website. Unless you stumbled here by accident, I presume that you are here because you are interested in learning more about the safe use of firearms. But before we talk about you, it's also reasonable to believe that you want to know something about me, especially if you are considering taking any of my courses.
First, the required firearms training "credentials list." I am a Certified NRA Instructor with over fifty years of shooting experience. Specifically, I have been trained in, and certified to teach the following NRA courses:
Certified Pistol
Personal Protection In The Home
Personal Protection Outside of the Home
Defensive Pistol
Home Firearms Safety
Refuse To Be A Victim
Chief Range Safety Officer
I am also a State of Missouri and State of Illinois Certified Concealed Carry Firearms Instructor.
In terms of participating in "top tier" training programs, I am partial to Suarez International and Massad Ayoob. Their philosophy and my philosophy of "reality based training" are identical. For advanced tactical training in both handgun and carbine, I highly recommend Asymmetric Solutions and their Land Warfare Training Facility in Farmington Missouri.
Next, a bit about my professional background. By education, I am a lawyer. Thus, I think you will find that where there is a discussion in any one of my courses about the legal ramifications of the use of deadly force in self-defense, I know something about what I am speaking.
But most important, I am an educator. I was a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago for some 35 years. I have taught law and ethics to thousands of students and in the process, have won virtually every teaching award the University has to offer, many of them more than once. They include Silver Circle Awards For Teaching Excellence, Educator of the Year, Distinguished Professor of the Year, and others. I say that this is "most important" not just for me, but for you as a potential student. As Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch fame said in American Handgunner Magazine,
"When you go to a school it isn't actually all about what the instructor did in the past or even knows; it's about what the instructor can teach you."
Well, teaching is what I do best. So, if you are looking for an instructor to tell you war stories or to bedazzle you on your time watching him shoot, then I am not the guy for you. If your primary purpose is to learn, then you and I can talk.
When it comes to defensive shooting, my philosophy is reality based. Although theory does have its place, that's not what I spend much time on. I emphasize the most probable cases that you will encounter either on the street or in the home. Special emphasis is placed on how to avoid getting into deadly force encounters to begin with as well as the legal ramifications involved with the use of deadly force. My classes are small. Very small. Usually I do not want more than about three to five students in a class and quite frankly, I prefer individual one on one instruction. You are paying me for personal attention, and that's what you will get.
Now you know something about me and my philosophy of firearms instruction. If you think we can do something together, go to my Contact Page and tell me about yourself and what you would like to learn. Thanks for visiting.
